Rebecca Cuffe (Cuffee) was convicted at Waterford, Ireland on 28 Feb 1848 for vagrancy. Previous offence for stealing clothes. 7yr transportation sentence - to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lord Auckland' arriving 20 Jan 1849. Single; aged 22yrs; housemaid; can read & write a little; Roman Catholic. Health: subject to fits. Native place - Waterford, Ireland. Brother: Abraham Sisters: Eliza & Sarah In Colony: assigned to service work. 22 Nov 1850: absent from duty - 3 mths hard labour at Female Factory, Hobart. Not to be allowed to service work in Hobart Town. 29 April 1851: Application for permission to marry. Approved. 19 May 1851: Married to Richard Peters (listed free) at Westbury. (ref. 37/1/10 no. 975) 23 Mar 1852: Ticket of Leave 10 May 1852: Drunk & disorderly - 3mths hard labour. Female Factory, Hobart. 12 July 1852: Having a letter improperly in her possession. 2mths hard labour, extended to previous term. 3 March 1855: Certificate of Freedom, at Westbury. Child: Martha PETERS b. 20 July 1867 in the Port Sorell district. Father - Richard Peters, labourer, River Leven. Mother - Rebecca Cough (Cuffe).
