John Cullen was transported on the Boyd, departing 10th Mar 1809 and arriving 14th Aug 1809 with 144 passengers.
395 ton ship. Departed Cork, Ireland for New South Wales, Australia 1809. After leaving Australia, for New Zealand, the vessel was set upon by natives from Bay of Islands and most onboard the ship were massacred (including cannibalization). The boat was captured and towed to Motu Wai (Red Island) were it was totally destroyed.

John Cullen was transported for 7 years on "Boyd" after being found guilty at the Wicklow Assizes in March 1807. He was already doing time in Wicklow gaol when he committed the theft crime from his bunk-mate that got him transported. From Freemans Journal, 20 March 1807 page 3: "John "WICKLOW ASSIZES. March 17th - the assizes ended here this day, at which the following persons were tried before the Lord Chief Baron O'Grady: "John Cullen convicted of stealing from Michael Sinnott, a brother prisoner in gaol and in the same bed, five dollars and a tenpenny piece, adjudged to be transported for seven years."
