Thomas Cullen was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Kilkenny Journal, Wed 28 Oct 1835. County Quarter Sessions. These Sessions terminated Wednesday evening. ... The following is a list of the convictions and sentences: … Patrick Dowling (Nicholas) Riot and assault, under the statute, and assault on a constable; Confined for assault on constable two years and one week out each month hard labour, and after to be transported seven years. (See report of the trial in our last.) James Tone, like—Transported seven years. Thomas Cullen, like—Transported seven years. Patrick Dowling and Thomas Tracy, like— Confined twelve months, one week in each month to hard labour, the last week to solitary confinement, and give security to keep the peace for seven years. ... The Convict Indentures state that Thomas Cullen was 22 years old. He could read; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Kilkenny. He was a farm servant. Thomas was convicted of riot and assault (no crime code with this wording) at Kilkenny on 22 October 1835 and sentenced to 7 years. He had one prior conviction and served 10 days. Physical attributes: height 5 feet 9 inches; complexion ruddy; hair light brown and eyes grey. Transport number 120. Prisoner number 36-1923. NSW 1837 General Muster states that Thomas Cullen was assigned to i) Government Services in Sydney and ii) Mr McAlister at Shathand (?).. Received Certificate of Freedom on 19 December 1842 (number 42/2165).
