CROWN COURT Wednesday. John Rock and Michael Cunneen were indicted for violating the person of Mary Gordon. Mary Gordon examined by Mr. tills, K, C. Lived at Cumroo ; was Elphin on Wednesday with her master, Charles Byrne, and his wife, they were on horseback ; she was on foot; she continued with them until she met Hogg, Conry, and the prisoners; her master shook hands with one of the men and desired her to hurry on, as it was going to rain ; she said she could not keep up, so they went on before her; and then Cunneen took hold of the basket which prosecutrix had on her back, and Hog put his hand upon her mouth and Rook held her hands ; they then her to a sandpit and Cunneen remained with her half hour ; she was unable to make any resistance ; Conry did the same; Hogg did the same ; Farrell the same ; knew them well by eye-sight ; they lived within a mile of her residence; they left her there after they pleased themselves ; she then went to Mulligan’s house ; did not tell who they were; did not say how many of them were in it; told Mulligan about the bacon and flax, remained one hour in Molligahan’s house; person of the name of Tighe came for her; lost a comb; Mulligan brought it to her; Tighe brought her to the house of one King; seen of the name of Jane Cain', stopped at Kings three hours; till Neddy Byrne, her master's brother came for her; he brought her home to his own house; told him what happened to her that night; did tell how many of them were in it; went next morn her master’s ; did not tell who they were; went to Captain French’s house: told him who they were; also told Mr, Fahy, Parish Priest who they were; swore informations the day after before O. D, J. Grace, Esq. never spoke to any of the prisoners before ; knew them all well by eye sight never had connexion of that kind with any man before ; heard they were taken on the Saturday after ; seen them at the Police Barrack on Sunday ; Daniel Kelly and George Horkan were present. Cross-examined by Mr. Blakeney- - Is at service five years ; lived in the one village all the time, had courtship with only one man all her life ; was not very fond him ; often was kissed by him ; went to the market that day with butter; drank only one glass of punch that day ; it was darkish when she left Elphin ; was two miles from Eiphin when this happened to her; her master and mistress were before her ; they sent a person for her before anything happened to her: cried out when they caught hold her basket, but they put their hands on her mouth ; would not be heard in Mulligan’s ; dragged her over the stile ; it was middling dark ; was crying out when she was inside till she was tired; cannot tell how long she was in the sand pit; was not long the road until she was dragged to the sand-pit; it was the first day she lived with Charles Byne, told their names first to Captain French ; did not know their Christian names ; knows Jenny Corns did not tell their names to any body that night; was in the market about four hours that day; …. ...
