MARRIAGE? 1835, 12 October: George Cupit, per Katherine Stewart Forbes, and Martha Jones, per America (1831), received permission to marry (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON52-1-1p015j2k). However, there is no record of their marriage in VDL. An undated entry on her Conduct Record says "Dead". The last dated entry, on 20 September 1833, says "Absent without leave and returned to the Factory for assignment in the interior". Martha had been serving a life sentence for stealing £1 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON40-1-5$init=CON40-1-5p199).

1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 24 and single. In 1833/34, and listed as Culpit, he was assigned to Mr Sherwin at Clyde (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5). 1840, 19 November: Granted a Ticket of Leave. 1845, 14 January: Granted a Conditional Pardon (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p153).

1831, 26 July: Convicted at Derby for stealing a sheep and nine lambs. No previous convictions (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p153). 1831, 10 September: George Cupit, 24, was admitted to the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich; he was sent from there on 10 February for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
