Correction to trial date: 1839 1839, 19 October: Ernest CYPRIEN is on a list of prisoners sentenced for transportation per “Water Witch” from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Van Diemen’s Land by the Criminal Court of the Colony of Mauritius. He is described as: single, aged 20, a servant; tried for theft at the Assizes on 3 July, 1839, and sentenced to 10 years; brown complexion, brown eyes and brown hair; mark on forehead and left cheek; 5'3½"; native place Port Louis, Mauritius; cannot read or write (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1840 Layton).
