National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/11/52. 1827 Sep. 2 individual petitions (Mrs Burnett, the prisoner's sister and the victim) on behalf of Samuel Dalrymple, convicted in 1827 at Glasgow of robbery against Robert Hunter, shoemaker. There are character references from Henry Ferguson, High Constable of Belfast and A Davidson, former employer. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner was wrongly advised to plead guilty by his advocate in the hope of a nominal sentence, he now denies the crime and no goods were found in his possession. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Annotated: 'Refd [Refused] Sep 29 1827'. AO8. [Scot]
