Peter Dalton was listed as 28 years old on arrival. Native Place: Yorkshire. Peter could read, was single, 5' 6¼" tall, ruddy and pockpitted complexion, brown to grey hair, blue eyes, mark of cut on top of forehead right side, small cut on left little finger. 29/11/1832: At Newcastle - Permission to marry Ann Stockes (Princess Royal 1829) Listed as Stokes on entry to NSW - Ann was 21 and on Bond - Peter was 33 and on Bond. No registration found, no other marriages found for Peter Dalton and no deaths registered. 1/10/1839: TOL Passport, on recommendation of Patrick's Plains Bench.




Peter Dalton was one of eight prisoners transported from Calcutta on the Caroline to Hobart, and then transferred to the Calista to go to Sydney. Shipping Intelligence. On Monday arrived, from London, whence she sailed on the 1st of November, via Hobart Town on the 6th of April, the ship Calista, Captain Hawkins, with merchandize, and 100 Saxon, and 260 Derwent sheep. Passengers, Captain Bunster, and Messrs J. Andrews, J. J. Daker, D. Burn, C. Sladden, F. Watkins, and F. Anley, Mrs. Ridge, 2 children, and servant, with 4 steerage passengers. The Calista also brings 8 prisoners, who arrived at Hobart Town on the Caroline, from Calcutta. M. 30th Regiment, who stood charged by an indictment and also by the Coroner’s Inquest with the wilful murder of his comrade William Ashman, and stating ably and minutely the Law as applicable to the cases of Homicide. The business of the first criminal sessions for 1827 having closed on Friday last, both Juries were discharged with the thanks of the Court.
