Digital Indent, per ship Albemarle. William Damant, tried at Justice Hall Old Bailey, Middlesex, 8 Dec 1790, Life. ------------------------------------------------------------- On 8 Dec 1790, (in the supplementary material of the Old Bailey) William Damant was one of several prisoners, whose Death sentences were commuted, conditional to Transportation for Life. William Damant, age 11, together with Robert Read (19) and John Mitton, (18) was tried at the Old Bailey for highway robbery on 13 Jan 1790, and sentenced to death. 127. WILLIAM DAMANT , ROBERT READ , and JOHN MITTON were indicted for feloniously assaulting Henry Meason on the king's highway, on the 19th of December last, and putting him in fear and danger of his life, and feloniously taking from his person, and against his will, a canvas bag, value 6 d. a base metal watch case, value 12 s. a watch spring, value 5 s. a black string, value 1 d. and divers other watch cases, springs, and movements , the property of John Wentner . Henry Meason was a 13 year old boy who worked for a watchmaker.
