Daniel Cooper, free, and Hannah Dodd, convict per ship Lord Melville. ---------------------------------------------------- DEATH. On the 7th instant, at an advanced age — and by numerous friends much lamented — Hannah, the wife of Daniel Cooper, Esq., of the firm of Cooper and Levey, Waterloo Warehouse, Sydney, New South Wales. Sydney Gazette, 18 June 1836. -------------------------------------------------- After the death of his wife Hannah, Daniel Cooper returned to England and remarried. -------------------------------------------------- Marriage. At Brighton, on the 1st March last, Daniel Cooper Esq., (Merchant), to Mrs. Ellen Murphy. Sydney Monitor, 12 July 1837. Death. At Brighton, England, on 3rd November last, Mr. Daniel Cooper, senior, of 3, Copthall Chambers, London, and formerly of the Waterloo Warehouse, Sydney, aged 69 years. Empire, 21 Jan 1854. A SUCCESSFUL MERCHANT.—The commercial world has lost an enterprising member in Mr. Daniel Cooper. This gentleman was a most extensive Sydney land proprietor, and may be regarded as a millionaire connected with that part of our Australian dependencies. The most valuable lands in the immediate vicinity of Sydney belonged belonged to him. These lands were comprised in what is called the Waterloo estate, and formed an area of 3,000 acres, which are now daily selling to the market gardeners at the high price of £250 per acre; to which may be added the Point Piper estate, with its water frontage, a property formerly granted to Colonel Piper. Some portions of this estate have lately been disposed of at the price of £400 per acre. The acquisitions of Mr. Cooper comprehended also innumerable farms and other lands, which swell the amount of his Australian wealth to an amount, the proximate extent of which it would in the present rising condition and growing importance of the colony, be most difficult to estimate. He commenced life with no other stock in trade than indefatigable industry. He was married, but died without issue. Two of his nephews have recently been united in marriage with the daughters of an Australian capitalist, of Birmingham who had withdrawn from the colony. The latter individual, who died about eighteen months since, was not only the holder of very extensive town property and of the most superb merchants' villas in the favourite retreat of Woollomoloo, in the environs of Sydney, but had for the last twelve years been profitably engaged in business operations in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. He had there been adding to his previously-acquired riches some hundreds of freeholds. This gentleman, Mr. William Macdonald, is well known to have died verily as the nephews of Mr. Cooper succeed to fortune in virtue of their marriage; the united accumulation secured by these two gentlemen will be something enormous.
