12/11/1834 Bury and Norwich Post Suffolk, England: Committed to Bury Gaol Robert Dare, (by the Rev. C. Borton) charged with breaking into the dwelling-house of Henry Golding, of Kedington, and stealing a silver cased watch, 3 silver spoons, and some half-pence, his property. Robert Dare was listed as being 18 years old on arrival in VDL - his native place was Kettering. Robert was 5'4ΒΌ" tall, dark brown hair, grey eyes, single, illiterate. Brothers: Henry (appears to have been transported to VDL on the Eden 1836 for sheep stealing), and John. Sister: Betsy. 1835 Muster: Assigned to Mr. James Clarke. 244/2/1840: TOL 14/8/1845: Robert 'Dear' aged 27, a labourer, married Susan Richardson, aged 15, at St George's Church, Sorell. Children listed: DARE MARY JANE 1845 DARE CHARLES WILLIAM 1847 DEER HENRY 1849 DARE SARAH 1852 DARE JAMES 1857 DARE ROSA ANNA MARIA 1860 DARE GEORGE ERNEST 1862 Susan Richardson was the daughter of Charles RLichardson and Mary Duncombe and was born in 1829 at Sorell - Susan died in 1862 at Sorell. 10/6/1852: Free Certificate. 2/7/1852: Steerage passenger, Launceston to Melbourne per 'John Bull' - ship to colony: Mangles - Free by servitude. 18/8/1877: Robert Dare aged 59, a farmer and a widower at Sorell, married Eliza Harden, aged 50, a widow. 18/11/1884: Robert Dare died, aged 66, of Pneumonia - listed as a Labourer - death registered at Sorell.




Ten years later, after he had served his sentence and become a free man, he married Susan Richardson.
