William Davey, 27, for stealing at the parish Slinfold, on the 5th of November last, two fowls, the property of Jas. Puttock.—(Former conviction.) —Transported for life. Sussex Advertiser, 8 Jan 1838. ----------------------------------------------------------- Looking again at his first conduct record above, (writing quite faint, not easy to read), it is recorded that he stole 2 fowls, from Mr James Puttock.

Gaol report, Bad, convicted before, Felony and once acquitted. Hulk report , Good. Stated this offence, stealing 2 lambs, pro. Mr James Andrews? Once for Bead? 6 weeks, once for house breaking, no bill, single. TL 22/9/1846 Tasmanian Description Record on arrival in VDL https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Digital/CON18-1-14/CON18-1-14/CON18-1-14P172 William Davey, plough, milk, thrash and reap, age 28. Native place, near Horsham, Sussex. See record for full details. --------------------------------------------------------------- William was also convicted in Launceston in 1855. Transported for robbing Richard Baker of money to the value of eight pounds. Stated this offence, Stealing a watch and 8 sovereigns, pro R. Baker. Age 47, Trade, Gardener, Native place, Stinfold, Sussex. Quarter Sessions, Tuesday, May 8. William Davy, John Older, and William Near, were indicted for assaulting Richard Bakeron 3rd April, and robbing him of £8 in money, one watch of the value of £5, and a chain. The prisoners were defended by Mr. Brewer. The prisoners were convicted. Launceston Examiner, 10 May 1855.
