Convict Notes

1833: Thomas Davis was assigned to the Marine Department (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-10$init=CON31-1-10p92). By 1837, he was at Port Arthur where he died on 10 February. He was listed as Thomas Davis, convict #780, aged 38 and a labourer (see Ross, 1995, "Death and burial at Port Arthur"). 1838, 11 February: Thomas Davis, 38, a labourer was buried in the Wesleyan Church cemetery, Port Arthur (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD34-1-1p226j2k).

1831, 5 December: Convicted at Kent for housebreaking. 1832, 20 January: Thomas Davis, 35, was received from Maidstone (convicted for housebreaking, sentenced to transportation for life) aboard the Retribution hulk at Woolwich. He was sent from the hulk for transportation on 24 March 1832 (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as 19 years old, a labourer and single. The same Conduct record lists him as married with two children. [Note: His hulk and death records suggest the age given here is well off the mark.]
