APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 16 Sept 1852 - Jane ROBINSON (per Cadet) to William DAVIS (free or free by servitude). Approved. (ref. Con 52/1/5 pg 105) N.B. there are several people in the Colony named William Davis, but most likely this man who was a Whitesmith transported on the ‘Duncan’ 1840/41. MARRIAGE: 25 Oct 1852 - Jane ROBINSON, aged 32, spinster to William DAVIS, aged 38 yrs, Whitesmith at St. George’s Church, Hobart. (ref. 37/1/11 no. 429)

N.B. There are several convicts in the Colony of VDL named William Davis. William DAVIS was convicted at Middlesex, London on 16 Oct 1840 for Larceny - pick pocketting at Hatton Gardens, London. Previously for vagrancy. 10 yr transportation sentence. Hulk report: "orderly'. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Duncan' arriving there 2 Dec 1840. Aged 30 yrs; whitesmith & groom, Protestant; can read & write; 5'5"; fresh complexion; brown hair; blue eyes; tatoos. Single man but had lived with Elizabeth Jones for 4 years. Native place of birth: Soho, London Father: William, at London Mother: at London Sisters: Emma, Anne, Charlotte & Sophia (ref. for famiy details, as recorded on Convict records upon arrival) Colony of VDL: 15 mths Probation Period Some notes of misconduct and neglect of duty. 5 Jan 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 30 Jan 1849: Conditional Pardon approved.
