William DAVIS was convicted at Worcester, England on 19 Oct 1840 for stealing 3 rabbits. Previous convictions. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Eden' arriving 5 July 1842. Aged 23 yrs; single man; a shoemaker; 5'6 1/4" height; Protestant; can read & write; ruddy complexion; reddish hair; Hazel eyes; tatoos. Native place of birth: Worcester, England. Father: Thomas, a shoemaker. 1 brother: George Colony of VDL: 1 yr Probation Period. Assigned to work as a shoemaker. 17 Jan 1846: Ticket of Leave granted. 12 Oct 1847: Hobart. Common assault. 2 mths imprisonment with hard labour. 7 April 1848: Certificate of Freedom issued. 5 April 1849: at Launceston. Charge of embezzlement. Acquitted. (N.B. There are several other persons named William Davis in the Colony at the same time and two on the voyage of the Eden.)
