N.B. There are two men named "William Davis" on this voyage of the 'Barossa' to Van Diemen's Land 1844. William DAVIS was convicted at Monmouth, Wales on 23 March 1844 for receiving stolen knives & forks. Previous convictions. 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Barossa' arriving 6 Sept 1844. Aged 34yrs; 5'6 1/2" height; Protestant; single man; can read & write; Native place of birth: Monmouth, Wales Father: William Mother: Elizabeth, at native place Brothers: James, Thomas & George Sisters: Eliza & Emma (ref for family details - as recorded on records upon arrival at VDL) Colony of VDL: 2 yr Probation Period Station Gang: Fingal 1848: at Launceston 2 Sept 1851: Ticket of Leave granted 4 May 1854: adultry. 3 mths hard labour and not to reside in Launceston. 14 March 1855: Larceny. 1 mth hard labour 14 May 1855: Assault a Constable. Fined.
