N.B. There are two persons named "William Davis" on this voyage of the 'Barossa' to Van Diemen's Land 1844. William DAVIS was convicted at Wiltshire, England on 6 March 1844 for stealing a copper boiler. Previous convictions. 20 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Barossa' arriving 6 Sept 1844. Single man; aged 20 yrs; a cloth dresser; Protestant; not literate; 5'2 3/4" height; fresh complexion; brown hair; dark eyes. Native place of birth: Bradford, England. Mother: Elizabeth (ref. Convict records) Brothers: Joseph, John, James & George Sisters: Louisa & ..... Colony of VDL: 2 yr Probation Period. 1st Station Gang: Seven Mile Creek 1847: at Avoca 13 Jan 1852: Ticket of Leave granted 4 April 1854: Conditional Pardon approved.
