N.B. There are two persons named “William DAVIS” on this voyage of the ‘Mandarin’ and both were convicted at the CCC, London. William DAVIS (Identifier 2) was convicted at the CCC, London on 4 Feb 1839 for Larceny - stealing a handkerchief from the person. 10 yr transportation sentence. Hulk report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Mandarin' arriving there 30 June 1840. Ship surgeon's report: "general conduct good". Aged 22 yrs; labourer; Protestant; can read & write; 5'8" height; dark complexion; dk brown hair; brown eyes. Place of birth: Clerkenwell, London Colony of VDL: 15 mths Probation Period. Several records of misconduct. 2 Feb 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 7 July 1849: Certificate of Freedom issued.
