N.B. There are two persons named "William DAVIS" on this voyage of the 'Mandarin' and both were convicted at the CCC, London. William DAVIS (identifier 1) (& John Short) was convicted at the Central Criminal Court London on 18 June 1838 for Larceny - stealing clothes. Gaol Report: "had served 1 mth at the House of Correction". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Mandarin 1840' arriving there 30 June 1840. Aged 18 yrs; single man; labourer; 4'9" height; Protestant; can read & write; fair complexion; lt brown hair; blue eyes; tatoos. Native place of birth: London
