William DAVIS was convicted at Warwick, England on 31 March 1821 for a Felony. 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Richmond' arriving 1822. Aged 24yrs; a butcher; 5'2" height' brown hair; dk grey eyes. Native place of birth: Suffolk, England (ref. Convict Indent record) Colony of VDL: Assigned to work in the Public Works Gangs. Several notes of misconduct and punishments. Ticket of Leave granted. 8 Feb 1834: Suspicion of having forged and uttered forged bank notes and passing himself off to be a free man. To be deprived of his Ticket of Leave and recommended to be sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 31 March 1838: Free Certificate, no. 128, issued. 22 Dec 1837: appeared in Court. Acquitted. DEATH: 23 Nov 1839, died at the H.M. Colonial Hospital. Cause - fever. (ref. noted on his Conduct Record & Registration 35/1/1 no.267) N.B. There are several other convicts named "William Davis" in the Colony abt the same time.
