Samuel Day was born in 1767 - stated to have been 21 on departure from England. 2/11/1788: Married Mary Davis/Bishop (Lady Penrhyn 1787) at St Philips, Sydney. (On 4 March 1790 Mary was sent to Norfolk Island on Sirius. In 1791 a child was born on the island named Mary Davis in victualling records, but later known as Charlotte Bishop. Mary returned to NSW in Kitty on 9 March 1793 with her daughter and was using the name of Bishop. Samuel was recorded with Mary Bolton and no children at mid June 1794. Samuel and his wife, Mary Bolton, (no marriage record found) a hospital nurse, were among the last few to remain at Norfolk Island. 28/1/1813: Departed for VDL per 'Lady Nelson' and he was at Port Dalrymple. 30/5/1818: Appointed constable at Port Dalrymple. May 1827: VDL Colonial Secretary Department - a document described Samuel as destitute in Launceston, without property or relatives, he said to be aged 79 and his wife Mary aged 69. 9//5/1849 Launceston Examiner: SAMUEL DAY.-The oldest man in Launceston, and perhaps in the island, paid the last debt of nature on Tuesday. Samuel Day's age exceeded a century: he has long been sustained by the bounty of a few individuals who had known him for a lengthened period. 9/5/1849 Cornwall Chronicle, Launceston: Died— At the Colonial Hospital on Tuesday 8th May, Samuel Day, at the advanced age of 100 years, a singular character, and one whose history would not be uninteresting to the lovers of the eccentric. In fact, going by his birthdate of 1767, which seems to be correct, he would have been 82 years old.

Samuel day was sentenced to death 23rd March 1785 at Gloucester. His crime was the theft of two pounds of warp yarn from a clothier. On the 14th December of that year, the sentence was commuted to 14 years transportation. He was sent to the 'Censor' hulk, aged 19 and from there delivered to Alexander as part of the First Fleet.
