Moreton Bay convict records James Deardon, per Boyne, tried Limerick City, 11 Mar 1826, for Criminally knowing a child 8 years old. Life. Labourer. Colonial conviction: Gen Sess. Sydney, 19 Sep 1829, Stealing fat. 18 months. Died in hospital, 25 Sep 1830 Description: James Deardon, native place, Lancashire, age 38, 5 ft 5 ½. Sallow comp, dk brown hair, hazle eyes, Protestant.




HORRIBLE CHARGE, James Deardon, a soldier of the 84th Regiment of Foot, was capitally indicted for assaulting and feloniously violating the person of Mary Fitzgerald, a child of eight years, against her will and consent, in the Castle- Barracks, on the 11th January last. … The little victim was of most interesting appearance, the daughter of a serjeant in the regiment, ... Limerick Chronicle, 15 March 1826. The Lord Lieutenant has been pleased to commute the sentence of death on James Deardon, convicted at our last Assizes, to transportation for life. Dublin Evening Mail, 3 March 1826.
