Charles Dellar was transported on the Mandarin, departing 24th Feb 1840 and arriving 30th Jun 1840 with 212 passengers.
640 ton ship. The 1843 voyage carried the 51 Parkhurst Boys from the Isle of Wight bound for Van Diemen's Land. (Another 31 went to New Zealand.)These boys were categorised as "ticket of leave" or "apprentice" boys.

Having done further research the Charles Dellar that died in Redfern is not the same person. His death, therefore, remains unsolved. Most experts think he probably died in the gold fields.




27/9/1839 Essex Standard Essex, England CHELMSFORD Commitments. — 20th Sept, Charles Dellar (by C. B. Abdy, elk., and M. C. Marsh, Esq.). for stealing a sheep, the property of Edward Collins, at Nazing. Charles Dellar was listed as 39 years old on arrival in VDL - he was born in Essex. Charles was 5'4½" tall, black hair, light hazel eyes, scar on forefinger. Married with 8 children - Wife Mary at Enfield, Middlesex.




He received a conditional discharge on July 20, 1852 and was a passenger on the Yarra yarra which sailed to melbourne on August 20, 1852. It is thought he died in Redfern, Sydney in 1869.
