Convict Notes
Denis Higgins was then indicted for stealing five sheep, the property of Edward Newsom. The sheep were stolen about Christmas last, and found in a yard in Blackpool, where the prisoner had left them. Guilty. Sentence of death was recorded against him. Cork Constitution, 1 April 1828. Assizes. Denis Higgins was indicted for stealing and driving away five sheep, the property of Denis Newson. Guilty. Sentence of death recorded. Southern Reporter, 1 Apr 1828.
The Convict Indentures states that Denis Higgins 42 years old. He could read and write; religion Catholic; status married and 5 children and a native of Cork. He was a shepherd. He was convicted of sheep stealing at City Cork on 1 April 1828 and sentenced to life. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 7 1/2 inches; complexion dark ruddy; hair brown to grey and eyes grey. Transport number 68. Assigned to Director of Pit North.
