Summary of Convictions in the County Denis McAucliffe, under Ellenboro’ Act, sentence of death recorded ; Limerick Chronicle, 21 March 1829. A warrant was received yesterday by Governor of the County Limerick Gaol for respiting, until further orders, the execution of the sentence of death against ... and Denis M‘ Auliff, sentenced at the last Assizes. Limerick Evening Post, 27 Mar 1829. The following, convicted at the late Assizes, have left the County Limerick Gaol for the hulk Surprise at Cove, for transportation to New South Wales, John Nunan, Patrick Dore, Thomas Healy, Matthew Hayes, Patrick Slattery, Denis M‘Auliff, Patrick Downy, and Nicholas White. Dublin Morning Register, 7 May 1829. On Wednesday constables Fitzgerald, Bingham, M’Carthy, and Byrnes, of the police station at in this county, succeeded in apprehending the notorious outlaw, Patrick Duggan, who has for the last two years evaded the utmost exertion of the police in this and the county of Cork. Duggan is a most desperate and formidable character, having been the terror of a large district of country, with another fellow named Denis M’Auliffe. They are both deserters from the army, and usually visited the same haunts always armed. M’Auliffe was arrested some time since, after a violent resistance to his captors, having taken deadly aim at one of the police party, fired, and wounded him. He was tried last Assizes, and capitally convicted. London Courier, 28 May 1829.
