Denis Mccarty was transported on the Friendship, departing 24th Aug 1799 and arriving 16th Feb 1800 with 161 passengers.
This convict ship, being 274 tons and 75 feet long was one of the light weight ships in the fllet and was skippered by Master Francis Walton. Built in Scarborough in 1784, she carried 76 male and 21 female convicts. During her return voyage to England her crew came down with scurvy and with insufficient crew to man her, she was scuttled in the straights of Macassar. The survivors were transferred to the Alexander.

Family connectons for Denis (Mccarty) are: MCCARTY Den/nis (McCarty/Mccarty/McCarthy) became a police constable farmer roadmaker. He was tried as a political rebel at Wexford Ireland & arrived in NSW on 16 2 1800 after a voyage of 6months on FRIENDSHIP. His Conditional Pardon was issued by 1800 & he was issued his Absolute Pardon by June 1810. He became Superintendent Government stock Hobart & was appointed as such for Derwent Tasmania on 10 10 1810; Provost Marshall Hobart & landholder at New Norfolk. He married Mary Ann/Mariane (Wainwright age16 her first marriage) on 8 12 1811 at St Davids CofE Hobart. He was recorded as off stores at Hobart Town on 2 10 1818. In 1818 he organised a party which captured bushranger Michael (Howe) & later reported to Lt Governor & inquest. He died on 25 3 1820 drowned at Tamar Van Diemens Land (Tasmania).
