Denis Stack was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 9th Jan 1836 and arriving 17th May 1836 with 108 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Convict Notes
Kerry Evening post 25 March 1835 report of conviction for larceny , 7 years transportation. The Surry log records Dennis (this was the spelling used in Australia) as a farm labourer aged 27, Roman Catholic, married with one daughter. Dennis was a small man, five foot three and a half inches (161.3cm), "sallow and a little pockpitted" with brown hair and hazel grey eyes. He had the "mark of a bile (boil?) left side of throat, scar over left eyebrow, small scar centre of forehead".(convict indent). Dennis's death certificate named his parents as John Stack and Catherine Henright . In May 1840 a recommendation was made at Bathurst for a Ticket of Leave for Dennis Stack . On 7 September it was granted, on condition that he remain in the District of Bathurst. According to a local historian Yvonne Jenkins, Margaret Quinn was living at Dirty Swamp (or Locksley) when she met and married Dennis Stack in 1842 Children of Dennis and Margaret were Elizabeth Born 27/04/1844 Baptisms Bathurst or 9/05/ 1844 (Church records, Hartley.) John born 18/05/1846, Catherine (Kate) Margaret born October 1849, Morris or Maurice born 1852 at Portland, Dennis born 185. Dennis bought land in 1857. 50 acres Lot 20 county of Roxburgh, parish of Thornshope. Sands Country Directory 1881 describes him as a grazier at Meadow Flat. Margaret died December 25, 1884 aged 65 and Dennis died 1/07/1885 aged 76 from chronic rheumatism and was buried 3/07/1885 at St Mary's Church, Kirkconnell.
