Digitised Indent of ship Matilda. William Narn, Richard Henson, and William Denman, tried at Lewes, Sussex, 4 Aug 1787, fourteen years.




At our assizes which ended on Tuesday last, 12 prisoners were tried, five of whom were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death, viz. ... William Narn, Richard Henson, and William Denman, for robbing Mr. Thomas Tourle, on the highway, in the parish of on the 30th of July last, between six and seven o’clock in the evening, of a metalwatch, eight or nine guineas in gold, and some silver, his property. … Seal, Narn, Henfon, and Denman, were reprieved before the Judges left the town. The three latter are be transported for fourteen years. Kentish Gazette, 14 Aug 1787. Last week the footpad who escaped apprehension after robbing Mr. Thurle on the highway near Deeding, with Narn, Henson, and Denman, who at our last assizes were capitally convicted of the offence, was last week apprehended in London and sworn to by Mr. Thurle. He is now in safe custody, and will take his trial for the crime at our next assizes. Kentish Gazette, 26 Aug 1787.
