8th July 1824. The humble petition of James Dennis, a prisoner for Life, arrived per Ship General Stewart in the year 1818. That your Excellency’s Petitioner left a wife and seven children, now residing in the parish of Kingsbury, near Barnstaple, County of Devon, who are waiting to rejoin Petitioner. That Petitioner will be enabled to support his family in case they should be allowed to come to him, and therefore most humbly prays that Your Excellency will be graciously pleased to permit the usual application may be made for their removal. Signed, James Dennis. Wife’s name, Elizabeth Dennis, Children: Susannah, aged 20; Elizabeth, aged 18; John & Mary, (twins) aged 12; Maria, aged 11; James, aged 9; Anne, aged 8. A reference to the Reverend Charles Sweet, Vicar of Kingsbury, near Barnstaple , Devon. -------------------------------------------------------------- (Appin) James Dennis. 22 July 1824.
