Philip Dennis was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 9th Apr 1834 and arriving 17th Aug 1834 with 262 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

On 3 November 1850 he married Ann Bird, with whom he had 5 children. Philip Dennis is buried in Lostock Anglican Church Cemetery, New South Wales.




Listed as Philip Dinnis on Ancestry Convict Indents. Philip was 16 years old on arrival. Native Place: Plymouth. Transported for 'Stealing nails'. Philip could read, was single, 5'0½" tall, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, scar betwixt the eyebrows, scar inside top of middle finger of right hand. 12/12/1839: TOL Windsor - altered to Patrick Plains 7/7/1840.
