Michael Desmond died at sea, being only aged 18 The surgeon on board was A Donoghoe. Michael Desmond was in the ship's 'hospital' for three weeks before he died there. The record of the surgeon's journal for 'Hive" 2 records this about Michael Desmond: Folios 5-6: "Case no 8, [Michael] Desmond, aged 18, prisoner; sick or hurt, phthisis pulmonalis; put on sick list 5 October 1835, died 26 October 1835 at 4 am. Folios 10-11: Surgeon's general remarks: "The only case of death which happened on board was that of a boy [case no 8] whose early habit of life predisposed him to pulmonary disease contacted during his apprenticeship to a glass manufactory."
