The Convict Indentures state that John Devine was 19 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Catholic; status single and a native of County Cork. He was a stable boy. He was convicted of stealing sheep on 31 March 1828 in Cork and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 2 inches; complexion dark ruddy and pock pitted: hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 109. Assigned to Mr Richard Fitzgerald, Windsor. Received his Certificate of Freedom in 1835 (number 35/481).
