26/5/1798: (Burial date) John David Dillon - Convict Marquis Cornwallis 1796 was buried at the Old Sydney Burial Ground.


JOHN DILLON was transported for 7 years from Ireland on the convict ship “Marquis Cornwallis” after being found guilty at Dublin on 3 October 1793 of stealing. “Marquis Cornwallis” convict ship did not depart Ireland for almost another two years, in August 1795, and arrived at NSW in February 1796. NEWSPAPER REPORT OF IRISH CRIME: Freemans Journal Sat 5 Oct 1793, p 4. “TRIALS at the THOLSEL, "Before Denis George Esq, Recorder of the City of Dublin. “THURSDAY OCT 3 "John Murray, for stealing 4 shirts and other articles the property of Patrick Lynham. "John Dillon, and Eliza Dillon, for stealing a sattin cloak, and other articles, the property of Patrick Kivans. All to be transported for seven years."
