HO 17/84/66 1834 Aug - 1834 Nov Prisoner name: William Dixon, aged 17, and William Waters. Court and date of trial: Lancaster Summer Assizes, August 1834. Crime: Burglary, in the house and workshop of Maurice Bagnell Keating (painter, plumber and glazier) at 11 Commutation Row, Islington, Liverpool, Lancaster in [April 1834]. Initial sentence: [Death recorded and commuted to] transportation for life. Gaoler's report: On Dixon 'Character etc not known'. Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil' [both]. Petitioner(s): John Dixon (John Dixion) (father, of 16 Hockenhall Alley, Liverpool) undersigned by Maurice Bagnell Keating prosecutor and nine inhabitants of Liverpool known to the petitioner, on behalf of convict Dixon only; Maurice Bagnell Keating (prosecutor) on behalf of both convicts, three applications. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Petitioner Dixon has brought up a large family by his own industry; both convicts were intoxicated at the time of the offence; no fraudulent intent; no burglarious instruments found on the convicts; previous good character.
