Old Bailey: THOMAS DODMAN and MICHAEL WARD were indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 16th of February , one gallon and a half of rectified spirits, value 30 s. and one gallon and a pint of rum, value 22 s. the property of John Nicholson and William Nicholson , in their dwelling house.. DODMAN, GUILTY - DEATH , aged 37. WARD, GUILTY - DEATH , aged 26. Michael Ward was also on board the Indifatigable. From: Jenwilletts.com/convict_ship_northampton_1815.htm Free passenger Mrs. Dodman died of apoplexy and was buried at Rio. The surgeon described her as a healthy good looking woman whose husband had been transported previously and had sent for her to join him (this was probably Thomas Dodman who arrived on the Indefatigable; her two year old son William Dodman died while at sea after leaving Rio and the last of the family on board, daughter Sarah at sea died on 9th April. Joseph Arnold journal, 8 March-17 December 1815 : 22nd March: Departed this life Wm. Dodman aged 2 years child of a free woman who died of Apoplexy when in Rio de Janeiro. His complaint was mesenteric obstruction. Sunday Apr. 9th. The Weather moderate but cold. Departed this life Sarah Dodman a free child. the last of the family that was on board. Dodman, who was transported some time ago, sent for his Wife & family to go out to him. His wife therefore, a healthy good looking woman & two children took their passage with us and now all are dead, the mother of apoplexy at Rio Janeiro where I buried her in the sand, & the two children on board of Marasmus. Re permission to marry at Parramatta (Reel 6005; 4/3497 p.180) 1822 Jun 1-18: James Groom convicted by Court of Criminal Jurisdiction of stealing from Dodman (Reel 6023; X820 p.55) 1824 Jan 27, Feb 4: Re permission to marry at Windsor (Reel 6012; 4/3510 p.267) NSW BDM has a marriage in 1818 to Sarah Sandall and in 1824 to Sarah Wood which coincide with the permissions to marry. There was also a marriage for Sarah Dodman to Charles Butts in 1836. 1835: Thomas died, aged 58.
