Aged 30yrs; married; country servant; Roman Catholic; can read; fair complexion; sandy hair; blue eyes. Native Place: County Clare. Ship's Surgeon's Report: good. Assignments in Hobart district. Delivered of a male child at the Female House of Correction (Cascades) Hobart on 06/06/1853. Registered: John Doogan (ref. Hobart district 2433/1853-33). John Doogan was admitted to St. Johns Orphanage, New Town, Hobart on 07/07/1854 aged 1yr 1mth (mother's were only permitted to keep their children with them whilst they were infants). He was however discharged to his mother on 30/06/1855. (ref. Orphan 1546). Further admission - this time under name John Dugan - on 21/04/1857, aged 4yrs. Following petition by mother he was released back to her care on 20/02/1866. She was then living in Launceston. (ref. 1609) Margaret received her Ticket of Leave 03/04/1855 & Conditional Pardon on 09/06/1857.

Catherine Doogan was convicted at Limerick on 25/10/1850 for cow stealing. 15 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Blackfriar' arriving 29/05/1851.
