Married, 2 children. Application for Permission to marry, in Colony: 4 Nov 1851 - to Ann (Anne) Mahon (transported per 'John Calvin' ship). Approved. Marriage: at the Manse, Morven (Evandale), Tasmania to Ann Mahon. John aged 28yrs, widower, labourer. Ann aged 22 yrs, spinster. (noted that he signed his name in his own handwriting) n.b. There is a birth record for a female child b. 5 May 1852 at Morven, however indexing is under name "Doorly" and mother is given as Ann "Manning". n.b. Wife Ann Mahon had a female child, Ellen Mahon b. 9 Oct 1849, prior to their marriage.

Doorby (no given name recorded but known as John) was convicted at Port Louis, Mauritius on 2 March 1845 for manslaughter. 10 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Deborah' arriving 5 July 1845. Aged 22yrs; labourer; 5'4 /12"; coppertone complexion; black hair; brown eyes; Roman Catholic. Native place - Calcutta 15 mths Probation. Station Gang - Impression Bay, VDL. Various assignments of work service. 20 Aug 1850: Ticket of Leave granted. 21 June 1853: Conditional Pardon granted. 9 Sept 1856: Certificate of Freedom, at Morven (Evandale)
