Family connections for John (Dorrington) are: DORRINGTON John (Dorrington) was born about 1772. He was tried for grand larceny stealing silk handkerchief of John (Gardonor) & shirt etc of Martin (Golding) at Chelmsford House Essex Assizes in April 1789, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship WILLIAM AND ANN. He is recorded in 1805/6 as working for his future father in law Philip (Roberts). He was Free by Servitude by 1809. He had a relationship with Jane (Gittons/Gettings). He is recorded in 1828 as farmer at Portland Head with 2of his children. He died on 21 12 1856 age84. [Some details taken from this Website] Jane (Gittons/Gettings) was born at sea on Fleet ship MARY ANN which arrived in NSW on 9 7 1791. After 1799 she was apparantly adopted by her stepfather Philip (Roberts). John (Dorrington) & Jane (Gittons/Gittens) produced maybe 8children: many boys 1.John Phillip (Dorrington) was born on 1 8 1809 & baptised on 8 7 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He, as (Durrington), married Ann (Walker) with permission of her parents on 22 12 1829 at St Thomas CofE/Wesleyan Sackville Reach. He died on 19 4 1859 age49. ..Ann (Walker) was born on 16 11 1814 & baptised on 16 10 1816 age23m at St Matthews CofE Windsor. John was tried at Chelmsford house Essex April 1789 for stealing 1 silk handkerchief to the value of 10 pence, the property of John Gardonor of ingrace and committed 26/1/1789 charged on suspicion of stealing 1 shirt, 1 prayer book, 1 pr shoes also the property of Martin Golding




John and Jane had at least 8 children, although two daughters did not survive infancy. In the 1805-1806 Muster (Carol Baxter), John is located [Ref A1204-page 33] working for Philip Roberts (Convict, 1792, "Pitt"). Roberts was the step-father to Jane Gittins, the daughter of Sarah Gittins (Third Fleet Convict, 1791, "Mary Ann"). John Dorrington and Jane Gittins subsequently married and are found together in the 1811 Muster [Ref 1674, 1675 - page 37]
