Hugh DOUGLAS, alias Shalto McPherson, was aged 39 years, married with two sons and a daughter in Glasgow Scotland when he was charged with receiving stolen goods in 1833. He was sentenced for seven years and arrived in Australia per the ship "Hive", reaching Sydney on 11 June 1834. In 1850 he sponsored his son John and his family to settle in Australia as well. National Archives of Scotland: List Hugh as a "Licensed Broker" and that he was convicted of "Theft", and that his address was Main Street, Carlton Glasgow. Hugh was married to Euphemia, 3 children, and his parents were Isobel McPherson and Donald Douglas. 28/11/1864: Sydney Morning Herald: On the 28th of November, in the 64th year of his age, Sholto Hugh Douglas, of Liverpool, N S.W. He was buried at the Liverpool Cemetery.
