The Frederick was a 210 ton wooden sailing ship, built in Batavia 1807. Mainly transporting cargo and passengers from Calcutta, India to Sydney, Australia but also some convicts, (military). Also In 1815 she carried eight escaped convicts that had stowed away on the Archduke Charles when she had left from Port Jackson for Canton. SHIP NEWS - On Tuesday arrived the ship Frederick, Capt. WILLIAMS, from Calcutta, via Bencoolen and Batavia, with a valuable cargo of merchandize, - Passengers, Mr. WINDER and Lieut. STEWART, who removed to the Pilot, and sailed the following day for Sydney. In this vessel arrives 7 male and 3 female prisoners, destined for Port Jackson. Hobart Town Gazette, 18 Oct 1817. Arrived in Port Jackson 22 NOv 1817. Shipwrecked at Cape Flinders, Stanley Island, Queensland, Australia in 1818.

Family connections for James (Douglas) are DOUGLAS James (Douglas/s) was born about 1798 in Edinburgh Scotland & appears to have joined the military. He was tried at Ceylon Court Martial on 9 5 1814, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a prisoner on 30 11 1814 on FREDERICK. He married Elizabeth (Startin her second (2of3) marriage) emancipist on 9 8 1819 at St Johns CofE Parramatta.In 1823 he was appointed constable for Patersons Plains/Luskintyre. He was issued a Ticket Of Leave for Parramatta in 1832. He was issued another Ticket Of Leave for Goulbourn in 1838. He died on 25 8 1840 age about42 at Parramatta. She was tried, possibly, in February 1806 for uttering forged notes at Birmingham Court Warwickshire & held at Warwick Castle. She was tried a second time for stealing cotton of Richard (Shutt) of Birmingham at Warwick Assizes on 13 8 1808, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 8 1809 after a voyage of 6.5months on INDISPENSIBLE; she was Protestant. She had a first (1of3) relationship with John (Thurston) & produced 3children. She was issued Ticket of Leave 11/122. She had a third relationship with Charles (Perkins). She was recorded in 1828 as Free by Servitude householder at Pitt Town. She died in 1878 age about88 mother of 4children.
