WATERFORD ASSIZE. CITY COURT. Thursday … James Downey, for stealing two sheep from Pat. Linchan, at Fountain, in October, 18?? to mercy by the Petit Jury.— Waterford Mail, 22 March 1828




The convict indentures state that James Downey was 25 years old. He could not read or write; religion Catholic; status married and no children and is a native of Waterford. He was a farm labourer. He was convicted of a sheep stealing on 29 March 1828 at Waterford and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - 5 feet 10 1/2 inches; complexion dark ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 146. Assigned to Mr Les (or Des) Cox, Malgra.
