The convict indentures state that James Downey was 25 years old. He could not read or write; religion Catholic; status married and no children and is a native of Waterford. He was a farm labourer. He was convicted of a sheep stealing on 29 March 1828 at Waterford and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - 5 feet 10 1/2 inches; complexion dark ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 146. Assigned to Mr Les (or Des) Cox, Malgra.
