The Convict Indentures state that John Downey was y0ears old. He could neither or write; religion Catholic, status single and a native of Tipperary. His trade was a Labourer. He was convicted of sheep stealing at Tipperary on 7 April 1828 and sentenced to 7 years old. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 4 1/2inches; complexion ruddy; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 41. Assigned to Woolloomooloo Road Party Received his Certificate of Freedom in 1837 (number 37/200).
