Convict Notes

Ellen Doyle and her brother Francis aka Daniel, were the 2 children of Michael Doyle and Margaret West of Killarney, County Kerry who produced adult descendants in Australia from about 1841. Joseph Taylor,Ellens son has descendants thru Joseph Noah Taylor of Newcastle, Sarah Taylor-McCann of Northern Tablelands and Wyalong, Ellen Taylor-Nell (Nell Nell) of Moree. Ellen Doyle-Taylors colonial baptism records indicate other surviving adult children were baptised as John,Bridget,Thomas,James and Miss Francis. The descendants live mainly in NSW and Queensland. Bridget Munro of Moree and Francis Nolan of Dirranbandi were never far from their obvious fond big brother, drover Joseph Taylor late of Moree..

Further Ellens brother baptised Francis in 1812 at Killarney, has his 1836 Convict aka Daniel Doyle Indent on the "Susan"as born Kerry. He tattooed "ED" "Susan" on his lower arm during the voyage. Ellen Doyles loyal son Joseph Taylor, got hold of his grandson-my dads birth papers and named him Paul Ernest McCann based on Josephs FBS parents names Samuel Taylor and Ellen Doyle. Only missing letter are YO of Taylor and DOY of Doyle. Joseph did the same thing for older grandsons Leo James McCann and Leonard Joseph McCann. With his other daughter Ellen Taylor-Nell aka Aunt Nell Nell,Joseph has named his granddaughter as Isabel Ruth Nell. Missing MYO of Samuel Taylor and DOY for Ellen Doyle. The historic words "ROSE of TRALEE" and "HENRY WELLESLEY" are very evident in the names of those 4 grandkids of Joseph Taylor...Ellen as recorded on Josephs death certificate in 1926. Paul McCann was in the 20th Brigade, legendary ALL VOLUNTEER 9th Division AIF..Rat of Tobruk, wounded thrice- El Alamein,PNG. Initially 20th Brigade of 2000 infantry SOLELY faced 14000 of Nippon Army in PNG. At Red Beach and Scarlet Beach -the 20th Brigade in USA landing craft faced the first Opposed Beach Landings since Gallipoli;then those fellas continued along Huon Valley ,PNG jungles over 9 LONG months in 1943..

Ellen's 1864 death certificate lists burial at Haydonton,Murrurundi Catholic Cemetery. Her 6 children aged 11 TO 17, John 22 and convict siblings MARY AYTON and William Chambers detailed her as from IRELAND and 30 years in Colony so 1835. Ellen was sent to NSW 1835 with Daniel of County Kerry. Joseph Taylor PASSED DOWN that his beloved mum, only "Ellen, she came from where the rose of Tralee was, that place." The Rose was in Kerry. There are no other Ellen Doyle convicts from Kerry of that age.

Ellen Doyle off the HENRY WELLESLEY went to Clarencetown in 1845 after her Certificate of Freedom of 23 December 1844 in Sydney, and bore dads pop,Ellens second son Joseph Taylor in 1846 to later husband FBS man Samuel Taylor. He arrived 1834 on Roslyn Castle. I have their tested DNA. "Ellen she came from where the Rose of Tralee was, that place ..." was testimony handed down from Joseph Taylor, the Liverpool Plains drover who listed them at his 1875 marriage in Singleton. My pop John McCann married Sarah Taylor born 1884,Josephs youngest. Josephs other 5 siblings did not specifically supply their convict parentage.Their eldest son John Taylor was born about 1841 near Paterson-Dungog where Ellen was placed on assignment. After the authorities found out that Ellen had a baby she was returned to the Parramatta Female Factory for punishment and humiliation like head-shaving. Her Convict Indent lists "B.B.X. "- baby born outside/out of wedlock. Those convicts mostly had nothing-no homeland long ago subjugated, no family, no ties, no future,no sympathy, anonymous, loathed, there to be used and abused self-image in society,no possessions. So they reasoned they could have loving innocent descendants beside them within the sandstone walls of that Prison.

The Four Doyle children left Killarney,County Kerry and went to England after 1830. In May 1837, Ellen Doyle had an ARMED CONFRONTATION at her assignment in the KITCHEN of Mrs Thompson in Sydney...So two ladies with Viking surnames rumbling... On 26 May 1837 Ellen was gaoled on a charge of assault for 2 years by the Court....Barry believes Ellen was only trying to slice some scones. Seems she was sent to Moreton Bay as punishment until May 1839. Then the women returned to Sydney, the PFFactory.
