Convict Notes

His wife Mary Driscoll, and daughter, arrived per Pyramus in 1836. Mary had been sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing clothes. NSW Convict Index. Mary Driscoll, per Pyramus, 1836, Cert. Freedom, No 46/2216; 27 Aug 1846. TL 41/2216; Wife of Cornelius. (as stated on her CF)

NSW Convict Index. Cornelius Driscoll, per Portland, 1833, Ticket of Leave, No 37/1208. District, Maitland; Tried, Cork City. Cornelius Driscoll, per Portland, 1833, Certificate of Freedom, No 40/1469. 3 Sep 1840. TL 37/1850. ------------------------------------------------------------- There appears to be a little confusion in the records here. There were two men on Portland named Cornelius Driscoll, both convicted at Cork. One of them had an alias Taylor. Although both appear to have different dates for their Certificate of Freedom, the same serial number is given for their Ticket of Leave.

The following convictions took place in this Court Tuesday, except in the two which stand last in the list, no sentence was passed. Humphrey Murphy for stealing feathers; Cornelius Huhane, Ellen Duller, Ellen Roche, Cornelius Driscoll, Catherine Walsh and Julia McCarthy for stealing clothes; Edward Fitzgerald and John Connor for sheep-stealing; Mary Duly and Honora Leary for stealing wheat; John Cooney for killing sheep, and Daniel Coonihan for horse stealing. In both these cases sentence of death was recorded against the prisoners. Cork Constitution, 25 October 1832.
