SHIP NEWS.—On Wednesday arrived the Catherine transport, Capt. Simmonds, with 97 female prisoners from Ireland; which she received at Cork, and afterwards went to Falmouth for convoy, whence she sailed for this Colony the 8th of last December. Yesterday arrived the Three Bees transport, Capt. Wallace, with 209 male prisoners, also from Ireland, but last from England having sailed in the same convoy with the Catherine, under protection of the Niger and Tagus frigates; which captured, off the Cape de Verde, the Ceres French frigate, rated 36, but carrying 46 guns, after an action of 15 minutes in which the Tagus only was engaged. Patrick Duffy was listed as 30 years old on arrival. Patrick was 5'6¾" tall, sallow complexion, black hair, hazel eyes. 30/9/1824: TOL Sydney, in lieu of No. 152/1464 the lower half of which is now cancelled. 3/8/1826: COF.




Patrick Duffy was born in 1784 in Navan, County Meath, Ireland, to father Patrick Duffy and Mother Madge Malone. He was christened Roman Catholic on 29 August 1784 and died on 11 August 1849 in the Benevolent Asylum, Sydney, NSW at age 65. The cause of his death was the effects of old age. Patrick was initially buried in the Old Sydney Burial Ground (Devonshire Street Cemetery), then later, on the closing of the Devonshire Street Cemetery, Patrick was exhumed on the 14 July 1901 and transferred to the Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood Necropolis, NSW.




In July 1812, Patrick was charged and tried as an Irish Rebel at Roscommon, Ireland. He was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years transportation. He sailed from Falmouth on the Three Bees on 8th December 1813 for Australia, arriving at Port Jackson on 6th May 1814.
