Dennis Duggan was transported on the Recovery, departing 5th Apr 1823 and arriving 30th Jul 1823 with 169 passengers.

Also arrived the same morning, (i.e. Thursday last) from Ireland, having sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 5th April, the ship Recovery, Captain Fotherley, with 180 male convicts, in tolerable health : no deaths on the passage. Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Cunningham, R. N. The guard comprises a detachment of the 1st, or Royals, commanded by Captain Gill, who is accompanied by his Lady. Three free passengers come out by this conveyance, at the expence of the Crown. Sydney Gazette, Thurs 7 Aug 1823. 1835 voyage. Surgeon's general remarks. On 5th October 1835, the Guard embarked at Deptford, consisting of 1 staff, 1 subaltern, 2 sergeants, 1 drummer, 26 rank and file of the 28th Regiment, accompanied by 8 women and 4 children. On the 19th at Spithead we received on board 160 male convicts from the Leviathan and 120 from the York Hulk and in the 30th got under weigh, previous to which, the convicts were discharged to the hulks in consequence of their being a great nuisance on board. Cork Assizes. Denis Duggan, for having, on the 21st of June last, at Ballyhooly stolen a horse, the property of Thomas Buckley—Guilty—Death. Roscommon and Leitrim Gazette, 31 Aug 1822. Sheriff of the County Cork has received a respite from the Lord Lieutenant for the following, under sentence of death :—Denis Duggan and William Lamb, for horse-stealing ; Saunders News-Letter, 11 Sept 1822.

One John Wood advertised in Sydney Gazette of 23 Septemebr 1824 that : “JOHN WOOD. No. 13,, Hunter-street, Sydney respectfully informs his Customers and the Public,that he has OPENED the above SHOP in the TAYLOR and DRAPERY LINE, and that he has on Sale every Article, connected with the aboe Branches, of the best quality, at the most reasonable prices” Dennis Duggan was assigend to this John Wood and stayed from 1824 at least 1828 Census time: April 1824 - Dennis Duggan convict mechanic (Tailor) to John Wood of Castlereagh Street who was in default of payment to government for his services 8 Oct 1824 John Wood Hunter Street had of not paid for his mechanic Dennis Duggan for 2 quarters. nor for tailor Reuben Pate per “Coromandel’ or Charles Knight of per ‘Earl St Vincent’. He probably arrived on ship “Jupiter” in early 182 as the birth of a daughter to his wife on board was announced in the gazette of 26 February 1829. J B Montefiore was a merchant and trader in O’connell St Sydney by 1833. In 1832 he was appointed the first president of the Jewish congregation formed in Sydney. He was a cousin of Sir Moses Montefiore, Sheriff of London. He had property interests all over NSW. One Dennis Duggan died in 1840 aged 40. NSWBDM Index 1378/1840 V18401378 24A.
