Convict Notes
Nicholas Duke and another (John Richardson) broke into a publican's house (probably also a pub) at about 11 pm. They stole a half crown coin (2 shillings and 6 pence) found on Richardson and clothes found at Duke's lodgings. Both denied the offence (despite being obviously guilty) and produced about a half dozen character witnesses. They were sentenced to death but the sentence was respited to 14 years transportation.
