Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. John Dulhany, alias Delahunty, age on arrival, 27, Per Governor Ready (2) 1829. Tried at Kilkenny, 1828, Life for Stealing arms. Irish White Boy rebel. DOB 1802. Native place, Tipperary. Single. Catholic. Labourer farm. Kilkenny Assizes, County Court. John Delahunty and William Meehan were put to the bar, charged with attacking the dwelling house of Thomas Burgoyne, woodranger to Sir Richard Sr. George, at Woodsgitt, on the 24th March,  and taking therefrom a gun and a pistol. … … the Jury, after deliberating for some time returned a Verdict, finding John Delahunty, Guilty, and acquitting Wm. Meehan. Sentence of death was recorded against the prisoner Delahunty. Kilkenny Moderator, 29 March 1828.

The convict Indentures for John Dulanty was 27 years old. He could read and write; religion Catholic; status single and a native of Tipperary. He was a farm labourer. He was convicted of stealing arms (or a felony in a dwelling house) at Kilkenny on 29 March 1828 and sentenced to life. He had no prior convictions. Physical attribute - Height 5 feet 5 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 131. Assigned to Mr Robert Martin, Richmond. Received Ticket of leave in 1837 (number 37/372). Received Conditional Pardon on 1 February 1845 (number 81). The surname of Dulhanty has been used as well.
