Dunne may have died on Norfolk Island. The NSW Convict Death Register has an entry for a Patrick Dunn (no "e") on page 61 who died on NI on 23 January 1843. The deceased Patrick Dunn(e) was per the Nautilus, and died in the general hospital at age 23.

11920. Patrick Dunne. Ship Nautilus, arrived Norfolk Island 3 Mar 1840. He later Departed 14 Feb 1844, from – Norfolk Island, ship Maitland (1) to VDL. Tried in Dublin, 15 June 1839, sentence Life, transportation for housebreaking, stealing arms and money, £100 fr Bailey, Co. Dublin, single. arrived 3 March 1844 (In VDL), Roman catholic, can read and write. Age 23, trade- blacksmith, native place, Co. Kildare. Trade – blacksmith, can shoe. Ship, Nautilus, F(ather) James, 2 S(isters), Rosa & Margt. at Native place. Patrick Trevor, burglary and robbery, Patrick Dunn, same offence; Saunders Newsletter, 10 June 1839.
