1831, 7 November: Edward Jones, 19, was convicted at Kirkdale for stealing 10 shillings, having had a previous conviction for stealing pigeons (https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-24$init=CON31-1-24p96). 1831, 8 December: He was admitted to the prison hulk Cumberland at Chatham. He was 19. He was sent from there on 11 February 1832 for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 20, a labourer and single. He was assigned to TC Simpson Esq (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5). 1834, 9 September: He was convicted for sheep stealing. One record gives his punishment as life while another says he was assigned to the Hulk Chain Gang for three years (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-24$init=CON31-1-24p96). 1838, 4 August: Against a charge of "absconding" is the recommendation that he be sent to Port Arthur. 1848, 4 January: Convicted for a felony - receiving 5 pounds; sentenced to hard labour and to be sent to Port Arthur. 1852, 14 September: He was granted a Ticket of Leave. 1854, 7 November: He received a Conditional Pardon (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-24$init=CON31-1-24p96).
